Despite the abundance of talented contestants on the Australian version of The Voice in recent seasons, many have been eliminated midway through the competition due to the strength of their opponents. Lexi X, a fifteen-year-old saxophonist and vocalist from Brisbane, was one such contestant in the show’s twelfth season. Despite her evident talent, Lexi did not advance past the Battles stage. However, her blind audition, which has garnered over one million views, remains truly remarkable.
During her audition, Lexi delivered a heartfelt rendition of “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes, infusing the song with her unique vocal expression and impressive saxophone skills. All four judges were captivated from the moment she began singing. Jessica Mauboy listened with her eyes closed, while Jason Derulo nodded along to the music. Rita Ora, who danced in her seat to Lexi’s performance, appeared to be the most enthralled by her talent.
In light of this, it should come as no surprise that Rita was the first judge to press her button, allowing her to turn around and see Lexi’s appearance. Her jaw dropped when she saw how young he was, and fellow judge Jason quickly pressed his button too, hoping to lure Lexi to his team. Lexi ultimately chose to join Rita’s team, which included other competitors like future champion Tarryn Stokes, partly due to Rita’s evident enthusiasm for his singing style.
Rita was also a fan of the five-piece boyband Overnight from season 12 of The Voice Australia. During their blind audition, they performed a cover of “Larger than Life” by the Backstreet Boys. Rita was so captivated by the group that she danced with joy upon seeing their appearance and hit her button seconds after they began performing. By the end of the day, Overnight had managed to sway all four judges, but they ultimately decided to join Judge Guy Sebastian’s team.
