A new road marking is being rolled out in certain areas of the U.S.: a slim blue line placed between the yellow center lines. Already seen on roads in Maryland, this line is a tribute to police officers who serve and safeguard their communities.
In Ocean City, the blue line has been painted on 65th Street, leading to the local police department. Mayor Rick Sheehan voiced his approval, emphasizing the beach town’s reliance on its officers to maintain safety.
The blue line serves a dual role: honoring law enforcement and acting as a safety feature to guide drivers to the police station.
Mayor Sheehan highlighted the essential role local officers play in maintaining order, particularly in “keeping the peace between older retirees and rowdy teenagers.” By adding this blue line, Ocean City aims to express its appreciation for the sacrifices officers make.
This gesture goes beyond symbolism; it represents the community’s deep appreciation for police officers who risk their lives daily. Other towns are encouraged to implement similar road markings, helping ensure officers nationwide receive the recognition they deserve.
With police officers “often not receiving the respect” they are due, this is a meaningful way to show gratitude for their service.
