Mary Lou Retton’s Health Journey: A Courageous Battle for Life.

Mary Lou Retton became a household name when she made history as a gymnast for Team USA at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Her remarkable performances on the vault and floor exercise earned her two gold medals and solidified her place in American sports history. She was subsequently honored as Sports Illustrated’s Female Athlete of the Year and appeared on Wheaties cans.

Recently, McKenna Kelly, daughter of gymnastics legend Mary Lou Retton, shared a somber update on her Instagram Story. Retton is currently battling for her life in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Kelly revealed that her mother is grappling with a rare form of pneumonia that impairs her ability to breathe independently. She has been under constant medical care for over a week.

Out of respect for Retton’s privacy, Kelly chose not to disclose further details. However, she did mention that her mother lacks insurance, leading to rapidly escalating hospital bills.

To alleviate the financial strain, Kelly has established a fund and is kindly requesting support from those who can contribute to covering the hospital expenses. She is asking for two things: prayers and financial donations to the fund.

Retton retired from gymnastics in 1986 but remained a familiar face in the public eye. She has made guest appearances on popular shows such as Glee and Baywatch, and even competed on season 27 of Dancing with the Stars.

It is unclear how long Retton will stay in the hospital. The celebrated athlete, who has inspired many, was also officially inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
