When the Prince and Princess of Wales purchased pizza for mountain rescue workers, they encountered a man who was selling the pizza and later composed a heartfelt funeral speech for him.
Peter Morris, a father of two, passed away at the age of 47 in May after battling cancer. His diagnosis came shortly after Kate learned of his illness.
Prince William, using notepaper from Kensington Palace, penned a letter of condolence to Peter’s wife, Tracey. This letter was read aloud at Peter’s funeral after his passing.
“I can’t fathom the immense void his absence will create in your life,” he expressed. “My deepest sympathies are with you and your family.”
“Catherine and I truly enjoyed our time spent with Pete.”
“The outpouring of support following Pete’s passing shows just how committed and beloved he was within the community.”
“I want you to know that you and your family are in our thoughts during this difficult time.”
In April of last year, Kate and William purchased 12 pizzas from Peter’s converted VW van, totaling £127.50. Peter hailed from Ebbw Vale in South Wales.
While at Dowlais Rugby Club in Merthyr Tydfil, they offered the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team a selection of pizzas, including margherita, pepperoni, BBQ chicken, and goat cheese.
Reflecting on the experience, Peter said, “They were incredibly kind.” He added, “When I started this business, I never imagined that one day I would be serving the future king.”
In 2016, Pete opened Little Dragon Pizza Van.
He had overcome esophageal cancer, but just four months after serving the royal family, doctors discovered the cancer had spread to his adrenal gland and liver. He passed away within the year, yet his business continues on.
William’s letter will be framed as a keepsake for Pete’s daughters, who are eight and five years old.
Tracey, 40, shared with The Sun, “It was an incredible surprise. I have no idea how they found out about Pete’s passing. Perhaps Kate’s own experience with receiving support resonated with them.”
“He talked about how normal they were.”
“Many people wrote to tell us they loved Pete, but the letter from William and Kate was the most lovely.”
William wrote his wife Tracey a letter of condolence on paper from Kensington Palace.
