Every shelter dog dreams of finding a loving home, but unfortunately, some are overlooked due to misconceptions about their appearance. Take the case of Biggie, a dog whose “scary” look has hindered his chances of securing a forever home. Biggie, a pit bull between three and five years old, is currently at the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter in Branford, Connecticut. His life has been a series of hardships, marked by long periods of abandonment and being let down by several families. Even after waiting for over 210 days, potential adopters shy away from Biggie, deeming his appearance too intimidating.
Biggie has a medium energy level, enjoys hikes and car rides, and is best suited for families with children aged 14 and older, according to the shelter staff. The Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter describes Biggie as having a happy disposition and being quite friendly. “He likes going on pack walks with other dogs and is gentle in the cat room,” they say. Unfortunately, many people overlook him in favor of a “happy-go-lucky pit bull” because of his size and the appearance of his ears. The shelter adds, “Biggie doesn’t realize he looks intimidating; he simply seeks affection.”
Biggie is visibly affected by the constant rejection. He once greeted guests with excitement, but now he spends his days lying in bed, looking sad. The shelter’s director, Laura Selvaggio Burban, noted, “While he enjoys day trips with staff and volunteers, returning to his kennel disheartens him greatly.”
We still hold hope that someone will see the caring heart beneath Biggie’s tough exterior. If you can provide him with the loving home he needs, please consider adopting Biggie. Share his story and help us find him a family. Together, we can ensure he gets the devoted home he deserves.
